About my services

Some occasionally-asked questions...

"What kinds of work can you do?"

I can help you with a wide range of copywriting projects, including (but not limited to):

     brochures

newsletters

website copy & design

     postcards

print ads

ghostwriting

     white papers

catalog copy

press releases

     sales letters

speechwriting

"Yellow pages" ads

If you also want someone to do the artwork for your project, that's not a problem. I work with several excellent graphic artists. Just let me know you need those services too.

"Do you specialize in my field?"

Two of the most sought-after qualities in a copywriter are depth and variety of world experience. If a writer has spent time out in the world doing the things she writes about, and has worked alongside the people she's talking to, she can speak their language. That means she'll write copy your prospects will believe--and if they believe you, they'll probably like you, then trust you, then buy from you.

I can offer you years of on-the-ground experience in the following areas:

  • health & medicine (especially nutrition and fitness)

  • education

  • non-profit fundraising

  • law enforcement: forgery/identity theft

  • fashion & fabrics

  • cooking & food history

  • publishing

"How do I hire you?"

Call (815) 568-8721 or email me and tell me about your project (this initial consultation is free). I'll write up a bid letter outlining the project we've agreed upon, the date I will deliver the copy to you, any follow-up information I need, and the cost.

  1. I'll fax or mail the bid letter to you, you'll sign it and return it to me (keeping a copy for yourself, of course) and we'll get started on your job.

  2. Please gather copies of any similar material your company has already produced; the names and contact information for people I may need to interview; and any product specifications or other literature you might have on hand. Basically, if you think I even might find something useful, toss it in the box and send it to me. I will treat your property with care, and return to you all items you need returned.

  3. The cost of my copy includes two sets of revisions, which must be requested within 30 days of delivery of the first draft, and can't be due to a complete change of the assignment after I've submitted that first draft. 50% of the fee is due up-front, and I'll invoice you for the balance once you've approved the final copy.

  4. You'll take the final copy to your printer, send it out into the world (including two copies of the finished product to me, so I can have them for my files--thank you!) and reap the benefits of your new advertising.

"What's this going to cost me?"

Most copywriters don't post their rates. I'd rather not post mine either. But, I get so annoyed when real estate ads don't give the price of the home (or online sales letters drone on for forty pages and make you click the order button to find out how much the product costs), that it would be hypocritical of me to keep my prices secret. You deserve to know up front if you'll be wasting your time by calling me.

  • These are base prices. That means this is the starting point. Depending on the size, complexity or timeline of the job, my final price may be substantially different from this. To get a quote for your project, call me for the free consultation I mentioned above: (815) 568-8721

  • My rates are very reasonable. If they are still way out of your range, you might consider buying a good book, and writing the copy yourself-- because when it comes to copywriting, you definitely get what you pay for. If someone offers to write you a sales letter for $75, you're going to get a $75 sales letter...and that can cause you more harm than good.

  • I define a "page" as 1" margins, Courier 12 font, double-spaced. That comes out to about 250 words per page. Don't rely on Microsoft Word's "word counter." It isn't accurate.
